Angela Davis made this styling iconic in 1970. The afro made a serious comeback in 2010 when the natural hair movement really started gaining ground. Many of our black women took to the streets and workplace rocking a fierce ‘Fro.
It was a surprise to see at first and was met with some resistance up until around 2012. It’s absolutely normal to see sisters pushing their natural afro today though. Even fortune 500 companies are throwing black women with afros in commercials to connect with our demographic.
